10 Favourite 90s Halloween Movies!

I thought with my favourite season of Halloween on it's way that I MUST contain Halloween themes. I love watching more and more Halloween films during October to help me getting into the season and this time it isn't any different. So here's my top 10 favourite 90's Halloween Movies. Let me know yours too!

p.s this is in no particularly order..

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)
Who doesn't try to find a perfect Disney film for any season they possibly can. Hocus Pocus is one film I watch every Halloween without fail, I absolutely love Bette Midler and it's such a good watch for all of the family. It makes me totally wish I was in America for this holiday season, it always looks bloody incredible!

2. Sleepy Hallow (1999)
A film that contains a headless horseman, nice. I didn't realise this film was released in 1999 and it's one of those I can watch over and over again. I remember when I first watched this and was completely terrified, it also stars Johnny Depp which is ALWAYS a good excuse to watch the film. Also there's a TV season as a follow on from this film, I'm really curious about watching it so will be watching it over the next few days. It's also directed by Tim Burton who we all know to be an amazing director for spooky films

3. The Addams Family (1991)
*sings the theme tune in her head* I absolutely love this film and it cracks me up everytime, however I can imagine it not being a very family watch these days. Wednesday is my favourite character for sure! I very much remember watching the TV series when I was younger too. Morticia and Gomez are the ultimate goth relationship goals though!

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas
*this is halloween, this is halloween* who doesn't spend their Halloween without watching Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. My favourite character has always been Sally in this film, I've always wanted to dress up like her for Halloween she has such a curious character. You know it's completely terrifying when you meet the Boogie Man too! You can imagine this Halloweentown existing in reality with this film too!

5. The Sixth Sense (1999)
'I see dead people' is the most memorable quotation from this much loved 1999 Thriller film. I still remember the first time I watched this and being completely shocked that the lead actor was in fact a ghost (apologises for the spoiler!). Ever since I try to work this conclusion out whilst watching it.

6.  Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Halloween isn't complete without a fix of Edward Scissorhands. It's one of my favourite films ever and the young Johnny Depp in this is incredible. I don't know anybody who hasn't seen this film, it's a must!

7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
I know this isn't a 90's film but I couldn't write a Halloween movie post without giving this corker a mention. It's genuinely one of my most favourite 'gory' horror films and I have watched it countless times over the year. This film also used to frighten my cousin so it's quite nostalgic for me in that way! You know something is going to go down from the very beginning!

8. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
This film is one of those I was kind of late to watch and I remember just believing every ounce of the footage. You can thank this film for the ongoing trend of using found footage to create horror films. It's your decision to make whether you think it stands up to the hype it had back then

9. Casper (1995)
Who doesn't LOVE Casper the friendly ghost? He genuinely has the most likeable Halloween character going. I remember watching this film so often growing up, my favourite part always being the end when Casper turned into a human. SO CUTE!

10. Candyman (1992)
I remember the first time I watched this film and being completely terrified not to look in my mirror and say Candyman 3 times before turning the light off. I enjoy the mystery and horror of this story even though as you rewatch it after a few years you start to put the story together before it even ends. Why on earth was this suitable to watch growing up though? You should give it a watch if you haven't before.

thanks for reading,

  4. Great list! I love hocus pocus and the nightmare before Xmas. It's so weird I love horror films but I can't watch them on Halloween they seem to scare me twice as much haha.

  5. Yep to all of these - but my list would absolutely have to include 'The Craft' as well. When I was at school (and the film was a bit of a "thing"), pretty much every girl wanted to be a witch when she grew up! :-) xx
