Dick Whittington Panto Launch, Belgrade Theatre.

When December rolls round and the Christmas spirit is in full swing there's one thing that always makes my list of things to do in the month, go and see a pantomime.

Over the past few years I've not been able to go and see a pantomime, mostly because most of my free time was spent working…

Little Shop of Horrors | Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

Little Shop Of Horrors (UK Tour)
Belgrade Theatre, Coventry

Sell A Door has definitely created a great reputation for high quality touring productions over the years and has been making an impact not only within the industry but it's audiences since 2009. And nothing was missed with their latest touring production of Little Shop of Horrors which began it's run at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry this week.

Little Shop of Horrors is most well known for the musical movie which was released in 1986 which starred Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and back then the unknown actor Steve Martin. But actually what most of us probably didn't know was that it was originally based on a black and white low budget movie filmed in 1960.

'Life' Balletboyz | Curve Theatre, Leicester

Throughout the UK we are privileged to have such a vast array of professional dance companies and to see them perform in your hometown is something even better. One of those companies who come to mind instantly are Balletboyz.
I remember the first time I saw them back in my third year of university at Warwick Arts Centre and saw them again only a few days after when they performed at the Curve Theatre. So when I heard they were making a return to Leicester this October with their new production, Life, I knew I couldn't miss them.

Interview | Matthew Sandiford, Balletboyz

I remember the first time I saw BalletBoyz back in 2013/14, it's so vivd in my memory with their stunning movement style and the ability to show the best in male dancers of our age. I loved them so much that I saw their piece twice in two different locations, I was hooked to their energy that I remember that I had to show my mum how incredible they were.

So they're back again at the Curve Theatre in Leicester as part of their recent touring production of Life. As the Sunday Times said it presents itself to be Dazzling…Brilliant…Exhilarating and it's definitely a performance you don't want to miss.

I was lucky enough to catch one of their dancers, Matthew Sandiford to chat about this production and to get a feel for what we're going to see.

Fagin's Twist, Avant Garde | Birmingham Hippodrome

If your looking for a exciting new dance production to sweep you off your feet and inspire you then Avant Garde Dance and The Place's, Fagins' Twist is definitely not one to be missed. Also participating in a post show discussion gave a wonderful insight into their creative process and influences that enables you to understand the structure.

It's really a twist on the original story of 'Oliver' that works so well and still carries with it the main thread of the characters that became so important to us. Oliver, Fagin, Billy, Nancy and the Artful Dodger are present throughout the production, however choreographer Tony Adigun dives deep into their characteristics and reexamined the relationships between them. As Tony described in a interview back in April 2016, "We created back stories for each of them if they didn't already exist so that the dancers, playing these dynamic people, could be engrossed by them and really embody the roles".

Interview | Martha Mackintosh and Sharan Phull, The Importance of Being Earnest.

Interviewing cast from shows is going to be something of a new feature on Carpe Diem Emmie, something I welcome with open arms. What is better than enjoying a conversation about everything theatre with those who share the same passion as you.I was invited over to the Curve Theatre to have a chat with two of the characters from their recent Autumn production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.

This was the first time I had ever interviewed cast members so to say I was nervous is an understatement. But as I sat down with cast members Martha Mackintosh and Sharan Phull they quickly assured me that they’d be nice and we quickly immersed ourselves into a great conversation. I appreciated the fact they gave their time before a busy 2 day performance day of The Importance of Being Earnest at the Curve Theatre. You can read my review of the performance HERE

Middletons Steakhouse and Grill, Leicester.

Enjoying a good steak dinner for a date night is one of me and Jordan's go to and in recent months we've took to perfecting how to cook a steak for ourselves, instead of heading out to a restaurant.

However, there's a new kid on the block that is sure to be the place we'll be heading to for our next date nights. Let's talk about Leicester's new Middletons Steakhouse and Grill.

Singing Masterclass with Michael Xavier, Miss Saigon.

With the release of MISS SAIGON: THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY PERFORMANCE on DVD on the 24th October (there was also a movie release on the 16 October), I was kindly invited by the team at Premier Comms for a Singing Masterclass with two-time Olivier Award nominee and director of Musical Theatre Masterclass, Michael Xavier based on some of the most famous songs from Miss Saigon.

The Importance of Being Earnest, Curve Theatre, Leicester.

Back in August I attended Curve Theatre's Autumn/Winter Season Launch Evening and there was one production they were presenting this season that I was curious to see above everything else. Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest was a creative masterpiece you don't want to miss!

Blood Brothers is without a doubt one of the most iconic shows known to it's audiences and is currently doing a tour around the UK. I was so excited to be invited along to watch the show at Birmingham Hippodrome this October.

Sweeney Todd | Derby Theatre, Derby.

Sweeney Todd
Derby Theatre, Derby

Finding a show which is perfect for this Halloween month can be pretty hard to find. However, Derby Theatre's Autumn production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is definitely what you should be going to watch this month.

Intu Derby A/W 2016 Event.

The Autumn season is well and truly underway with the Advent Calendars and Christmas stock filling the shelves, I am sure I am not the only person already on the countdown to Christmas.

Autumn fashion is my ultimate favourite out of the whole year so when Intu Derby invited me along with some other local bloggers to celebrate the new season I knew I had to go!
