Fenways, Loughborough

17-18 Baxter Gate, Loughborough LE11 1TG, UK

There's a new restaurant in Loughborough and it's clear that Fenways is one to watch out for.

Occupying the building of what was once a bar is the brand new bar, burger and smokehouse that will not only host you with some of the best food in town but with the added addition of some live music at the weekends. Having heard about teething problems during their opening I was pretty glad that I had the opportunity to dine during a more quieter evening to get the best of Fenways.

The Orange Tree group who manage the building that really transformed the space into a restaurant which is spacious and colourful with a great outside area to enjoy a drink with friends as well as a open kitchen. Therefore you can see the confidence and process of creating your delicious dishes in no time, the kitchen staff were also very friendly and engaging in conversation with me about their vision for the place in the future. The restaurant is an asset that Loughborough desperately needed in the area.

The menu had a lot of options, making it really difficult to decide on food choice. Their ingredients are sourced from the best suppliers and each dish is handmade to order, so you know that it's always fresh when served therefore getting the best of flavours from your food. The beef used to make the burgers is matured for at least 28 days and the smoked dishes are marinated overnight and smoked in their British made smokers for between 8 and 14 hours, again to get the best of flavours from the meats for you to enjoy.

Having eyed up the menu before visiting I gave the 1/2 Rack of 8 Hour House Smoked St. Louis Ribs a go accompanied by the fries and pickles, with a side dish of Mac 'n' Cheese (i'm a sucker for Mac 'n' Cheese!). The portion was very generous in this dish, so much so that I had to ask Jordan for some help in finishing it. The meat was really soft and came off the bone quickly as I was eating it, making it well cooked to get the best flavours. It was also topped with a generous helping of BBQ Sauce. Jordan on the other hand sampled the Boneless Ribwich, a tasty bun filled with 8 hour house-smoked and honey glazed pork belly, smoked fried onions and sauerkraut in a bun, again like my dish served with fries and house pickles. it was packed with flavour and the meat had a beautiful texture, it was let down however by the portion size when compared to the ribs.

We also decided to have a sample of their desserts, with only a few options available it's obvious that the restaurant is keen to bring the focus onto their meat dishes. We tried the Baked New York cheesecake, mixed berry compote which was thicker than we had anticipated therefore wasn't a great dessert to have when already full from the main dishes.

If your a fan of good meat dishes that is well cooked then Fenways is definitely your restaurant of choice. I feel like it's live music vibe at the weekend will attract a lot of people through their doors to enjoy good food and atmosphere before heading out to sample Loughborough's nightlife.

* I was invited to sample Fenways, Loughborough in return for this review to be published. Photos and opinions are my own.
