𝘼𝘿 | The Royal Mint launches Music Legends Collection.

The Royal Mint is the world's leading export mint, it makes coins and medals for an average of 60 countries yearly. However, their first responsibility is to make and distribute United Kingdom coins as well as to supply blanks and official medals.

This year, The Royal Mint has launched a new collection entitled 'Music Legends'. This new collection pays tribute to the most iconic bands and artists of our time. These coins are a "legacy perfectly encapsulated" in their design. This is the first time in history that a British band has been showcased on a UK coin.

The first coin being released in the series features one of the most iconic rock bands of all time and actually one of the first bands I would hear consistently in my home growing up. Queen formed in the early 1970s, they were a band who created foot-stamping anthems and epic ballads that are some of the most iconic songs of all time. They were led by the defiant frontman, Freddie Mercury who tragically died too soon.

Coin collectors and music fans alike will enjoy having this coin within their home. I know my dad will love one of these, especially as he saw the band when he was younger (what a memory to have!) The band are celebrated with a design that includes iconic instruments played by each founding member: Brian May's Red Special guitar, John Deacon's Fender Precision bass, Roger Taylor's Ludwig bass drum and Freddie Mercury's Bechstein grand piano with the opening notes of Bohemian Rhapsody pressed down. It really is all of the detail and Product Manager Chris Facey has done a fantastic job with this design, it's his first at The Royal Mint. The design was also officially approved by Royal Taylor and Brian May.

There a few designs of the coin you can choose from. Alongside a gold Proof, silver Proof and standard Brilliant Uncirculated edition, the BU coin is also available in three different slipcase covers exclusive to The Royal Mint. My design was really simplistic with an image of the band at the front but beneath the cover is a collage of album covers from the iconic band. I love how they've captured this band, even though some wording within the slipcase cover too - it's really something quite special.
